Role overview
An experienced Accountant is needed for a fixed-term assignment lasting 1 year in Hamilton, Waikato. This position suits someone who is highly accurate, comfortable working with Xero, and has practical exposure to the construction sector. The role focuses on maintaining reliable financial records, supporting core accounting operations, and contributing to the company’s overall performance.
Key responsibilities
- Run the daily accounting workflow in Xero.
- Produce, examine, and maintain financial statements, management reports, and budgets.
- Process and track accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Perform reconciliations for bank accounts, credit cards, and job-costing records.
- Administer subcontractor payments and manage payroll activities.
- Ensure tax compliance, including GST, PAYE, and related obligations.
- Track project expenditure, margins, and profitability.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing and reporting tasks.
- Work with external accountants, auditors, and other stakeholders as required.
Experience and suitability
The ideal candidate will bring at least 4 years of accounting experience or a comparable background. Prior work in construction is essential, along with solid knowledge of job costing, project accounting, and contract billing. Familiarity with construction management or job-tracking systems is also important. The role calls for someone who is detail-focused, analytical, organised, and able to manage time well. Strong communication skills and the confidence to work independently are also required.
