Software Developer (Java)

Role overview

This position supports the Pricing and Rates applications within the Deposits Domain under Canadian Banking Engineering. The role is part of a collaborative, high-performing team focused on delivering business priorities while following applicable regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

What you will do

• Carry out system analysis, solution design, programming, technical documentation, and support for both existing and newly built applications and systems.
• Partner with project stakeholders to clarify technical requirements and shape technical designs that align with enterprise architecture standards.
• Write code, perform unit tests, troubleshoot defects, prepare documentation, and deploy applications and scripts.
• Estimate development effort and help plan work for projects and enhancement requests.
• Support, maintain, and improve current applications.
• Take part in routine code reviews tied to release work.
• Deploy code into non-production and production environments.
• Lead investigations for production incidents and implementation issues, including root cause analysis.
• Recommend technical improvements and practices that support the organization’s technology direction.
• Work with product owners and business analysts to understand current system behavior and propose better solutions.
• Apply the bank’s risk appetite and risk culture in daily decisions and activities.
• Operate in line with the organization’s values, code of conduct, and global sales principles while maintaining strong business controls for operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk obligations.
• Help build a strong performance culture and contribute to an inclusive workplace.

Experience and technical profile

• At least 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in system analysis, design, development, unit testing, and debugging.
• Strong working knowledge of Core Java/Java 8 or higher and Python.
• Solid understanding of SQL and relational databases.
• Exposure to GIT, Gradle, Jira, Confluence, or similar tools used in CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience working in an Agile environment.
• Practical experience with Spring Boot, Spring Security, Spring Data Repositories, or Spring Batch; at least one Spring framework component is needed.
• Working knowledge of web services such as SOAP and REST, along with STS, Spring Tools, or Eclipse IDE.
• Understanding of SSL and secure handshake setup between applications.
• Knowledge of cloud technologies such as Google Cloud and Splunk.
• Oracle Certified Java Developer certification is considered an advantage.
• Familiarity with event-driven architecture, including Kafka, Kafka connectors, and Kafka brokers.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in banking or financial services.
• Working knowledge of SoapUI.
• Experience with cloud platforms.
