Role overview

KOAM News Now is looking for an energetic and well-informed meteorologist to join its weather team in the Joplin/Pittsburg, KS market. This position sits in a highly weather-active region and offers the chance to strengthen a well-established weather brand while producing forecasts and weather storytelling that genuinely inform and protect the community.

KOAM serves as a local leader in news, weather, and sports across the 4-States area, covering Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri. The station is part of Morgan Murphy Media, a family-owned company founded in 1890 that operates television and radio stations, print media, websites, mobile and streaming apps, and a digital marketing agency across 11 locations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and present accurate, engaging weather forecasts, with special attention to severe, inconvenient, and high-impact weather.
• Produce creative weather content designed to connect with audiences across digital, streaming, and broadcast platforms.
• Turn technical meteorological information into simple, understandable language that explains both the forecast and the reasoning behind it.
• Support the KOAM+ streaming app, the KOAM website, and social media by creating audience-focused weather content and encouraging interaction.
• Deliver timely weather alerts and urgent updates from the studio or live from the field during severe weather situations.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in meteorology.
• A confident, conversational, and relatable on-air presentation style.
• Preference for candidates with experience forecasting severe weather systems.
• Knowledge of WSI weather systems is an advantage, though it is not mandatory.
