Role overview

Carton House, a Fairmont-managed five-star resort in Maynooth, County Kildare, is looking for a Host to join the Carriage House and Courtyard Bar team. The hotel is part of the Fairmont collection and focuses on delivering exceptional guest experiences through fairness, inclusion, and continuous development for all colleagues.

What you will do

• Greet guests on arrival and set a welcoming tone from the moment they enter.
• Handle reservations and keep the booking system accurate and up to date.
• Check and reconfirm bookings when needed, while noting guest preferences and special requests for the team.
• Organize seating to support smooth restaurant operations without compromising service quality.
• Keep guest profiles current, including celebrations, dietary needs, VIP status, and repeat-guest preferences.
• Serve as the main contact for guest enquiries, responding in a professional and efficient manner.
• Work closely with restaurant management and service staff to ensure a seamless experience for guests.
• Track table availability and waiting lists, and give guests reliable waiting-time updates.
• Help resolve guest issues quickly and with professionalism.
• Prepare thorough handovers at the end of shifts and pass on important guest details to teammates and managers.
• Maintain a polished appearance and uphold high standards of hospitality at all times.

What we are looking for

Applicants should have prior experience in a host, hostess, receptionist, or similar guest-facing position within a restaurant, hotel, or broader hospitality setting. Strong customer service ability, a real interest in hospitality, and confidence using reservation systems such as SevenRooms, OpenTable, ResDiary, or similar tools are important. The role also calls for excellent communication, interpersonal strengths, strong organization, close attention to detail, and the ability to stay calm in a busy environment. Candidates should be flexible for evenings, weekends, and public holidays, present themselves professionally, and be able to work independently as well as collaboratively.
