About the company
ASB is focused on helping customers stay one step ahead by providing the tools they need to manage their lives, plans, families, and future. Its products play an important role in the wider economy and have a direct impact on people’s everyday lives.
About the role
ASB is looking for a Data Steward to join its Data Management Office. In this role, you will work across the ASB data community to help define the guardrails, plans, and best-practice standards that shape how critical data is used and managed. This is not just a governance position; it places you at the centre of how data is managed across the organisation. You will combine business understanding with technical insight, policy, standards, and governance to drive strong outcomes. The role involves using advanced tools to trace data lineage and create processes and controls that protect data quality and integrity. You will coordinate with teams across ASB, share knowledge, and ensure the data in your area is clearly represented. As a strong champion for data use, you will help maintain high standards in data governance and data risk management.
Key responsibilities
- Lead data governance and data risk management activities, including regular review of data quality, controls, and resolution of issues within your domain.
- Keep stakeholders informed about the status of remediation work and related initiatives.
- Help educate the wider ASB community on data governance topics and practices.
- Contribute to the effective day-to-day operation of the Data Management Office.
- Build and manage working relationships with key business stakeholders to understand, capture, and support their data governance needs.
About you
You are likely to be a proactive self-starter with strong problem-solving ability, a positive approach, and excellent communication skills. You enjoy sharing knowledge, learning from others, and contributing to meaningful outcomes. A strong background in data is preferred, ideally gained through data governance, analytics or insights, business intelligence, or information management within banking or financial services. You should also have strong influencing and collaboration skills, supported by solid understanding of frameworks and the ability to clearly communicate benefits and possibilities. Confidence in building strong working relationships and presenting to senior leaders will help you succeed. Experience with data governance tools and related platforms would be helpful, but it is not essential.
Working for ASB
You will be joining an organisation that places strong emphasis on its people and offers a supportive team environment with significant opportunities for development and career growth. ASB is committed to diversity and inclusion and maintains a flexible, supportive workplace that aims to meet the needs of both its people and its business.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted through ASB’s online career channels. A detailed position description is available for role-specific information. If this opportunity appeals to you, please submit your application.
