About the role

NEXTDC is developing the infrastructure that powers Australia’s digital future. The company designs, builds, and runs advanced data centres using efficient, cutting-edge facilities that support customers in Australia and internationally. With operations across multiple major cities and plans for further growth, NEXTDC offers a fast-moving environment focused on customer service, innovation, and continuous improvement.

In this role, you will support the Hyperscale Facility Management team with the daily running of the data centre. The position centres on delivering dependable electrical and mechanical maintenance while keeping safety, uptime, and customer experience at the forefront. You will work in a 24/7 operational setting and help ensure critical systems remain stable, compliant, and highly available.

Key duties

  • Evaluate and control risks related to workplace safety, security, and critical facility systems so operations stay within the approved risk framework.
  • Use the company’s risk management process to identify, assess, and reduce operational risks, and share findings with engineering teams to support better design and delivery.
  • Oversee correct installation of customer infrastructure, including power monitoring, rack security, and environmental management.
  • Track system health through BMS and similar platforms, investigate faults, and work to reduce mean time to repair.
  • Help improve monitoring across the data hall, including temperature, humidity, alarms, and power conditions.
  • Work according to all established policies, procedures, and compliance requirements to maintain safe operations.
  • Support training activities that reinforce workplace safety obligations and operational standards.
  • Build and maintain strong technical knowledge of critical infrastructure to serve as a dependable point of reference.
  • Assist with moving, receiving, and assembling customer equipment when needed.
  • Prepare operational reports and suggest improvements that enhance reliability and performance.
  • Take part in team-based activities and ongoing professional growth initiatives.
  • Join development conversations aligned with the company’s competency framework.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call roster to support round-the-clock operations.
  • Carry out other duties assigned by the Facility or Services Manager.

What you’ll need

  • Strong client service and relationship-building skills, with the ability to handle stakeholder expectations professionally.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical topics in simple terms.
  • Excellent planning, organisation, and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Practical understanding of data centre environments, including rack handling, IT equipment installation, cooling, and power systems.
  • Good knowledge of structured cabling, cable management, and quality practices.
  • Willingness to develop deeper expertise in high-density power systems and advanced cooling technologies.
  • Comfort using Microsoft Office, with exposure to BMS or other service platforms preferred.
  • Relevant electrical or telecommunications qualifications are advantageous.
  • Working knowledge of ITIL concepts.

Experience and qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar data centre or colocation role, supporting roughly 2.5MW or more of critical IT load in a Tier III or equivalent environment.
  • NV1 security clearance, or the ability to obtain and keep it.
  • Recognised qualifications plus practical experience in electrical and/or telecommunications disciplines.
  • Certificate III in Telecommunications, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and support junior colleagues.

Additional information

This is an opportunity to join one of Australia’s fastest-growing companies and contribute to the future of AI and the digital economy. You’ll be part of an inclusive, diverse, and values-led workplace with strong opportunities to grow as the business expands.
