Data Analyst (Entry / Junior)

The Entry / Junior Data Analyst will contribute to projects focused on migration and climate by handling data gathered from different sources, preparing it for analysis, and helping turn it into useful insights.

What You Will Do

You will work with data end to end, from collection and cleaning through validation and analysis. The role includes conducting exploratory analysis, preparing simple statistical summaries, and creating visuals and reports that can be understood by both internal teams and external audiences. You will also support the development and upkeep of data models and straightforward dashboards, while documenting methods and source information to keep the work clear, transparent, and easy to reproduce. In addition, you will collaborate with senior colleagues and subject-matter specialists, assist with research deliverables, and help explain findings in an accessible format.

Qualifications and Experience

The position calls for solid analytical ability, including comfort working with both quantitative and qualitative information and drawing practical conclusions from it. Some background or training in data analytics and data modeling is expected, with familiarity in tools such as Excel, SQL, Python, or R being useful. A basic understanding of statistics, including descriptive techniques and introductory inferential methods, is also needed. Strong written and spoken communication skills are important for presenting findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Candidates should have a relevant tertiary qualification completed or currently in progress in areas such as data science, statistics, economics, environmental science, social science, or a similar discipline. Good attention to detail, strong organization, and the ability to manage time effectively in a hybrid working environment are essential. Interest in migration, climate, or international development topics is preferred, and prior coursework or project work in these fields would be an advantage. Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau, along with version control or collaborative platforms like Git or shared cloud systems, is beneficial.
