Bartender

Job summary

In this role, you will work with general oversight to help run Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) facilities and support day-to-day bar operations.

Core duties

• Serve alcoholic drinks only to patrons who meet the minimum legal serving age at the installation, which is 21 years.
• Pour and present beverages such as beer and wine.
• Prepare mixed drinks using the venue’s standard recipes.
• Prepare and arrange drink garnishes.
• Apply alcohol-safety practices to reduce the risk of overconsumption.
• Use standard bar vocabulary and terminology correctly.
• Remain standing for extended periods as required by the role.
• Check identification in line with state rules before serving alcohol.
• Deal appropriately with intoxicated guests according to established procedures.
• Process alcohol purchases through point-of-sale systems and the cash register.
• Explain menu items and serve food from the establishment’s menu when needed.
• Keep bar equipment, glassware, utensils, and tools clean and ready for use.
• Provide courteous and helpful customer service.
• Help reduce liability by controlling over-service, monitoring intoxication, and supporting efforts to prevent drunk driving.
• Follow sanitation requirements in line with Army and preventive medicine standards.
• Work according to all applicable procedures, processes, and policies.
• Carry out any other duties assigned by the employer.

Knowledge and skills

• CPR and first aid certification is an advantage.
• Familiarity with exercise science, health, and fitness is valued.
• Strong people skills and a service-oriented approach are required.

Experience and education

A high school diploma or an equivalent qualification is required. The role calls for at least two years of experience coordinating organized team sports, recreation club activities, and social event scheduling. Prior MWR or armed forces experience is preferred.

Working conditions
