About the role

Gridium builds software that helps commercial buildings operate more efficiently, reduce energy use, and lower costs as part of the shift toward a low-carbon economy. This role sits at the center of that mission because the product depends on dependable data from utilities and renewable energy systems.

As the Data Product Manager, you will own how Gridium acquires, understands, and protects the energy data that powers the analytics platform. You will work on a technically demanding surface area with broad influence, helping turn messy real-world utility and energy information into data that engineering teams can use reliably at scale.

The work spans hundreds of utilities, each with different portals, billing structures, metering setups, tariff logic, and data quirks. You will become the internal expert on what each source can provide, how Gridium can access it, and where the limitations are. That expertise will shape product behavior, integration quality, and roadmap priorities.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving hard problems, digging into unclear situations, and finding answers without needing constant direction. You will collaborate closely with engineers, Data Operations, sales, customer success, and external utility or partner contacts. The company uses modern AI tooling to move quickly, and the role is expected to make full use of that leverage.

What you'll do

  • Explore utility systems, renewable energy sources, tariffs, customer requirements, and related technical details to uncover what data is truly available and usable.
  • Develop a deep understanding of each utility integration and how the captured data maps into product capabilities.
  • Create implementation-ready integration specifications with enough precision for engineers to build against, including important edge cases.
  • Work side by side with engineering during development by joining standups, answering questions, and keeping Jira and related workflows moving.
  • Verify that delivered integrations match the intended specification before marking them complete.
  • Monitor existing integrations, investigate failures or missing data, and help prioritize fixes with engineering.
  • Partner with Data Operations to spot recurring data-quality issues and drive broader system improvements instead of only one-off corrections.
  • Keep the engineering backlog organized for integration enhancements and bug fixes.
  • Act as the company’s go-to expert on integrations and the data they produce.
  • Build working relationships with utilities and third-party partners to remove blockers in the integration process.
  • Coordinate with sales and customer success to help prioritize the integration roadmap.

What we're looking for

  • Strong curiosity and a proactive mindset; someone who naturally investigates problems instead of waiting for instructions.
  • Solid technical understanding of data integrations, including ETL and a wide range of real-world data formats.
  • Proof that you follow through on commitments and deliver what you promise.
  • Experience writing clear, buildable specifications and documentation that can guide engineering and operations.
  • Comfort using AI tools for data validation, workflow automation, and rapid prototyping.
  • Background in utilities or energy data, including billing, tariffs, metering, renewable energy, and utility portals.
  • Current residence in the United States and legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a product role for a SaaS platform that relies on data from many third-party systems.

Benefits and workplace

The compensation package includes salary, stock options, a 401(k) match, strong health coverage, vision and dental insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, generous parental leave, and a flexible vacation policy designed to support rest and productivity.

Gridium has operated as a fully remote company since its founding and supports flexible work arrangements. If you prefer to work from a coworking space, that can be accommodated as well. The team also meets in person several times a year in different cities for collaborative planning and team time.

The culture is casual, collaborative, and inclusive, with an environment where ideas are welcomed and valued. Gridium is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
