Physical Security Specialist

Role Overview

This position supports physical security operations at Fort Bliss, TX. The role focuses on strengthening protection measures for government property, equipment, and facilities through planning, assessments, training, and coordination with stakeholders.

What You Will Do

• Lead both formal and informal briefing sessions and training on physical security topics.
• Provide practical recommendations to stakeholders on how to satisfy physical security needs.
• Draft and maintain policies and procedures designed to protect government assets.
• Carry out on-site surveys of newly installed or updated security systems to confirm compliance with required standards.
• Review contract proposals to verify that agency requirements are fully addressed.

Employment Conditions

• You must be able to receive and maintain eligibility for a Secret security clearance throughout employment.
• A pre-employment physical exam is required, along with an annual follow-up exam.
• The role is covered by pre-employment screening and random drug/alcohol testing afterward, including testing based on reasonable suspicion and after a work-related accident.
• This position falls under the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban, also known as the Lautenberg Amendment.
• Business travel or Temporary Duty (TDY) is required about 25% of the time.
• You must earn the Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) and the Physical Security Course Certification within the first two years.
• A valid state driver’s license must be maintained for the duration of the role.
• The job involves lifting up to 50 lbs during normal duties.
• You will need to sign an agreement confirming that this is an obligated position and that you may be displaced under reduction-in-force procedures if the former incumbent returns.
• This is a term appointment expected to last 3 years.
• Term employees serve a 1-year trial period and may be removed with limited appeal rights.

Qualification Path

Applicants must fit one of the authorized hiring categories, including: 30 Percent or More Disabled Veterans, Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan, Military Spouses under Executive Order 13473, DoD Military Spouse Preference (MSP) eligible candidates, Reinstatement, or Veterans Recruitment Appointment (VRA).

To qualify, you need either the required specialized experience, the specified graduate education, or a combination of both. Specialized experience includes participating in the planning, integration, or maintenance of electronic security systems; helping conduct facility security inspections or assessments; and preparing reports covering security findings and recommendations. The role is typically equivalent to work at the GS-07 level in the federal service.

Eligible education includes a master’s degree, an equivalent graduate degree, or two full years of progressively higher-level graduate study leading to such a degree in a field that supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for this job. A mix of education and experience may also be used as long as it totals 100% of the requirement.

If you have held a General Schedule position within the past 52 weeks, you must have completed 52 weeks of federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
