Role Overview
As a Network Operations Engineer I, you will support and improve a global, high-capacity backbone network that links data centers, studios, cloud platforms, and core production systems powering PlayStation services. The position is designed for early-career professionals with 1–2 years of practical experience who want to deepen their knowledge of large-scale networking while contributing to real production infrastructure.
Core Responsibilities
- Keep a global production network running smoothly by handling incidents, carrying out planned changes, supporting maintenance work, assisting deployments, and contributing to ongoing network enhancements.
- Investigate and resolve connectivity problems across backbone, data center, and cloud environments.
- Use telemetry and analysis tools such as sFlow and IPFIX to track network health and help identify issues.
- Help build and maintain operational documentation, procedures, and runbooks.
- Take part in regional shift coverage so the network is monitored around the clock in a follow-the-sun operating model.
- Participate in weekend on-call coverage, with shifts of up to 12 hours per day.
Required Experience and Skills
- 1–2 years of hands-on experience in network operations, network engineering, or a closely related area.
- Strong grasp of networking basics, including TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, and subnetting.
- Practical exposure to routing protocols such as OSPF, IS-IS, or BGP concepts.
- Experience working with routers and switches in a live production setting.
- Ability to diagnose technical issues in a structured way and explain findings clearly.
- Working familiarity with version control tools such as Git.
- Comfort working collaboratively in a team-based engineering environment.
Preferred Exposure
- Familiarity with MPLS, BGP, IPv6, or VPN services.
- Experience using Linux systems or scripting tools such as Python.
- Exposure to monitoring, telemetry, or observability platforms.
