Role Overview
This position serves as the primary authority for Environment, Health and Safety at the project site. The role focuses on building, applying, and overseeing EHS systems, ensuring legal adherence, reducing operational risks, and strengthening safety culture across the site.
EHS Leadership and Site Oversight
- Own the site-level EHS function and drive the planning, rollout, and monitoring of safety systems and procedures.
- Develop project-specific EHS plans, safety management frameworks, and emergency response arrangements.
- Guide and support EHS officers, supervisors, and the wider site workforce.
Statutory Compliance and Coordination with Authorities
- Make sure activities remain aligned with labor regulations, environmental rules, factory legislation, electrical safety norms, and all project-specific legal obligations.
- Coordinate with inspectors, government departments, and other statutory agencies during audits, approvals, and inspections.
- Keep all required registers, permits, and compliance records current and audit-ready.
Risk Review and Hazard Control
- Lead HIRA, JSA, method statement reviews, and broader risk assessments for construction work.
- Spot unsafe behaviors and conditions, then ensure suitable controls are put in place.
- Oversee the safe execution of high-risk work such as work at height, lifting operations, electrical tasks, and confined space activities.
Site Safety Monitoring and Implementation
- Carry out routine safety inspections, audits, and toolbox talks across the site.
- Track EHS compliance among contractors and subcontractors.
- Ensure correct use of PPE, warning signage, barricading, and permit-to-work systems.
Incident Handling and Investigation
- Direct investigations for accidents, near misses, and unsafe events.
- Perform root-cause analysis and verify that corrective and preventive actions are completed.
- Share incident updates and investigation reports with management and clients.
Training and Safety Culture
- Plan and deliver EHS inductions, refresher programs, and task-specific safety training for site teams.
- Build a stronger safety mindset through campaigns, awareness sessions, and behavior-based safety initiatives.
Environmental Management
- Ensure the environmental management plan is followed, including waste handling, pollution prevention, and sustainable site practices.
- Monitor dust suppression, noise control, waste segregation, and the handling of hazardous materials.
- Assist with environmental audits and required reporting.
Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly EHS reports covering man-hours, incidents, and compliance progress.
- Monitor safety KPIs and leading indicators.
- Maintain documentation needed for audits, certifications, and project close-out.
Client and Leadership Coordination
- Represent the organization in client-facing EHS meetings, audits, and reviews.
- Keep project management and senior leadership informed on EHS performance, trends, and risks.
- Support project leadership in meeting EHS targets and contractual obligations.
Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Engineering or Science is required.
- Professional EHS certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, ADIS, or an equivalent qualification are expected.
- Applicants should have 12 to 20 years of experience in EHS management, ideally within EPC, infrastructure, power, or renewable energy projects.
