Role Summary
This remote, full-time Database Administrator position is focused on keeping the organization’s database systems reliable, secure, and efficient. These databases support AI products, learning platforms, and management tools. The role covers day-to-day monitoring, backup and recovery planning, access control, security enforcement, and safeguarding data integrity. It also includes schema design and updates, issue resolution, and close coordination with developers and DevOps teams during releases and data migrations. In addition, the role contributes to capacity planning, performance improvement, and the creation of technical standards and documentation.
Core Duties
- Track database health and performance, then take action to keep systems running smoothly.
- Set up and maintain backup, restore, and recovery processes.
- Control database access and apply appropriate security measures.
- Support high availability and ensure data remains accurate and protected.
- Create, adjust, and improve database schemas as product needs change.
- Investigate and resolve database issues across development, testing, and production environments.
- Work with developers and DevOps teams during application deployments and data migration work.
- Assist with capacity planning and performance tuning.
- Document database procedures, standards, and operational guidelines.
Required Background
The preferred candidate should have a strong foundation in database administration, including monitoring, recovery planning, and security management. Experience in schema design, normalization, query optimization, and general database design is important. The role also calls for solid troubleshooting ability, familiarity with replication and high-availability setups, and practical knowledge of at least one major relational database platform such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, or Oracle. Exposure to NoSQL databases is an added advantage. Candidates should also understand data modeling, indexing, SQL scripting, and the importance of preserving data quality and integrity. Clear communication and documentation skills are essential for remote collaboration. A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience, is expected. Experience in AI, analytics, or large-scale web and mobile application environments is considered beneficial.
