Overview
A client in Ireland is looking for a Data Scientist to work from Galway as part of a team focused on organising, analysing, and making better use of a large data pool. The role is designed for someone who enjoys turning data into practical business value, improving relevance and usefulness of information over time, and working in an environment that supports technical development as well as personal growth.
The position offers room to experiment and innovate with data mining and machine learning methods, with the aim of generating meaningful insights and stronger decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply advanced cloud-based tools, modern machine learning approaches, and statistical modelling to extract value from data and improve forecasting, optimisation, and decision-making at scale.
- Own projects end to end, from initial definition through delivery, to produce insights that support commercial decisions.
- Work closely with product, data, and engineering teams to shape problem statements and build analytical approaches.
- Review results, build actionable insights, and convert analytical outcomes into clear metrics and visual presentations.
- Carry out statistical exploration, data preparation, modelling, prediction, clustering, analysis, and reporting.
Requirements
- A degree or master’s qualification in Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field.
- Between 3 and 5 years of professional experience.
- Solid understanding of machine learning modelling methods, along with experience presenting model outputs to engineers, customers, and other stakeholders.
- Degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline; additional education would be an advantage.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to turn analytical findings into clear business stories and promote the value of data science and machine learning.
- Hands-on experience with statistical inference, unsupervised and supervised machine learning, reliability or survivability modelling, and/or predictive maintenance.
- Good knowledge of large-scale data mining and machine learning methods for clustering, classification, regression, and anomaly detection.
