Role Summary
This position is for an experienced Data Analyst at a G7-equivalent level to join a multidisciplinary Agile delivery team. The role centres on turning complex data into clear insights, supporting reporting needs, and helping shape products and services through dependable analysis.
You will be expected to build reliable data collection methods, work with complex structured and unstructured datasets, create dashboards, and make sure data remains secure, accurate, and useful for strategic decision-making.
Data Collection and Data Management
- Build structured and dependable processes for gathering data.
- Set up secure approaches for storing, managing, and maintaining organisational data.
- Define how data should be collected, checked, refreshed, and retained across its lifecycle.
- Protect data quality, consistency, and governance at every stage.
- Re-use existing data sources wherever possible to avoid unnecessary duplication.
Analysis and Insight Generation
- Examine both structured and unstructured datasets to uncover patterns, trends, and opportunities.
- Translate analysis into practical insights that guide decisions.
- Prepare data for reporting, governance use, and external publication where needed.
- Support recommendations with evidence-based analytical work.
Dashboarding and Reporting
- Create, enhance, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards.
- Develop visual outputs that clearly communicate KPIs and business insights.
- Track dashboard performance and keep improving reporting capabilities.
- Produce regular reporting packs for stakeholders and senior leaders.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Work
- Work with Agile delivery teams to support product and service delivery.
- Coordinate with wider data teams to stay aligned with enterprise data standards.
- Gather reporting requirements from stakeholders and turn them into analytical solutions.
- Present findings in a clear way for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Continuous Improvement
- Encourage strong practices in analytics, governance, and data collection.
- Share knowledge to help improve data literacy across teams.
- Contribute to improvement initiatives using evidence and analysis.
- Help build dashboards that measure product usage and highlight opportunities for refinement.
Essential Experience
- Background as a Data Analyst or Data Scientist in a complex organisation.
- Hands-on experience creating and maintaining Power BI dashboards.
- Ability to design secure and scalable data collection processes.
- Strong analytical ability with confidence handling complex and messy datasets.
- Experience with data governance, quality assurance, and lifecycle management.
- Strong SQL skills for data querying and analysis.
- Experience working with large datasets from multiple sources.
- Ability to explain analytical findings clearly to different audiences.
- Experience in Agile, multidisciplinary delivery environments.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills.
- Use of data to support both operational and strategic decisions.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in UK Central Government or wider public sector settings.
- Understanding of the Government Digital and Data Profession capability framework.
- Familiarity with government data standards and governance practices.
- Exposure to product analytics and service performance measurement.
- Experience using data to drive continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of data security and information governance principles.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Information Systems, or a closely related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Microsoft certifications related to Power BI, Azure Data, or Data Analytics are advantageous.
Security Requirements
- BPSS security clearance is required, or a higher level if applicable.
- The candidate must be able to obtain and retain the relevant UK security clearance where needed.
