Role Overview

Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Construction Labourer will assist crew leads with general site duties such as digging, lifting, cable pulling, moving materials, and keeping the work area orderly. The position also involves safe handling of basic hand tools and, when needed, the operation of company vehicles.

Key Duties

  • Carry out physically demanding tasks outdoors in a fast-moving environment and in changing weather, including digging, lifting, cable pulling, and moving supplies and equipment.
  • Keep the worksite tidy and well organized through ongoing cleanup activities.
  • Clear snow from the site when required.
  • Operate and look after company vehicles safely when needed, and notify the Site Supervisor about any maintenance concerns.
  • Support equipment operators by securing attachments and helping direct the movement of machinery and materials on site.
  • Use and maintain basic hand tools in a safe manner.

Additional Information

This is a safety-sensitive position. Employment is contingent on passing pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, along with criminal and general background checks.

Schedule and Working Conditions

  • Work rotations may vary by project, including patterns such as 4 days on / 3 days off, 8 days on / 6 days off, 10 days on / 4 days off, and 21 days on / 7 days off.
  • Overtime is paid at time and a half after 10 hours in a day and after 40 hours in a week.
  • For out-of-town assignments, accommodations may be provided through all-inclusive camp lodging or through LOA with individual accommodations, depending on the project.

Requirements

  • Education equivalent to Grade 10 is required; a High School Diploma is preferred.
  • At least 1 year of construction experience is required, preferably in the medium- to high-voltage sector.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Should be physically capable of lifting up to 55 lbs.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record is required.
  • Must be able to work variable shifts, including weekends and after-hours as needed.
  • Comfortable working at heights of at least 9 feet and climbing ladders.
  • Must be able to read, write, and understand English.
  • Valid CSTS certification is considered an asset.
