What you'll do
This role supports the Waste Management division by handling day-to-day labour duties, equipment operation, maintenance-related work, and service support for the Vancouver campus. The position may also involve coordinating work in assigned areas and assisting with team oversight when needed.
Working conditions and additional requirements
Work may take place in severe weather and in environments with odors, loud noise, confined spaces, or elevated locations. All duties must be carried out in compliance with WorkSafeBC rules and UBC policies and procedures.
The role may require specific certifications depending on assignment, including confined space entry, lockout procedures, fall protection, traffic control, asbestos abatement, driving, or other job-related credentials.
Supervision and accountability
The Labourer reports to the Manager, Municipal Services and receives daily direction from the Operations Head, Waste Management. Work is completed under general supervision, using both oral and written instructions and established procedures. Sound judgment is expected, though errors generally lead only to minor delays.
Minimum qualifications
Applicants should have secondary school education or completed high school, along with a valid BC driver’s licence, or an equivalent blend of education and experience.
Equity and workplace expectations
UBC values a workforce that reflects diverse perspectives and supports inclusion, fairness, and equity. The role expects openness to different viewpoints and a commitment to expanding personal awareness and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred qualifications
