General Operator

Role overview

Busso Blues is hiring dependable, energetic, and hands-on General Operators to help with day-to-day farm work. This position suits someone who enjoys outdoor work, using machinery, and contributing to the delivery of premium crop production.

In this role, you will support core farm activities and help the operation meet its targets for output, quality, and efficiency. Your work will span machinery use, crop handling, irrigation, upkeep of the property, and general labour tasks.

Core duties

Machinery and equipment

• Safely run tractors, harvesters, spray rigs, loaders, and other farm equipment.
• Carry out spraying, cultivation, harvesting, and transport tasks as directed.
• Perform regular checks and basic servicing so machinery stays in working order.
• Promptly flag any faults or maintenance needs.

Crop and field operations

• Support planting, cultivation, and harvesting work.
• Make sure harvested produce is handled to meet standards for size, ripeness, and presentation.
• Reduce damage to product during handling and movement.
• Work efficiently toward daily productivity and yield goals.
• Follow handling processes that protect product quality and, where relevant, cold-chain standards.
• Assist with irrigation installation, monitoring, and adjustments, including drip systems.
• Carry out crop-care activities such as weeding, mulching, pest and disease checks, fertiliser and chemical application under supervision and in line with safety rules, and crop protection tasks like netting and frost protection.

Property upkeep

• Clean and maintain sheds, buildings, equipment, and other farm facilities.
• Help repair fencing and complete general property maintenance.
• Keep work areas aligned with health and safety requirements.
• Assist with waste handling and environmentally responsible practices.

Teamwork and conduct

• Collaborate well with supervisors and other team members.
• Follow instructions and respond to changing operational needs.
• Show reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
• Take part in training and development activities.

Requirements

No formal qualification is needed for this role. Agricultural certificates or prior farm experience will be considered an advantage.
