Assembler

Role overview

Wabash is looking to bring former team members back into an assembler role at its Lafayette, Indiana facility. This position supports production work that can differ by site and may involve assembling parts, fitting subassemblies, and completing finishing tasks on trailers or related products.

What you will do

• Contribute to the company’s goals around safety, product quality, and on-time delivery.
• Keep the work area organized and clear of hazards.
• Measure, trim, and apply caulk to materials as needed.
• Install rivets and operate rivet-related equipment.
• Run heavy machinery and other production tools.
• Install truck bed flooring and related components.
• Work from decal instructions and blueprint-style templates.
• Attach signs, reflectors, fenders, mud flaps, and similar parts.
• Take on additional tasks assigned by a supervisor or coordinator, including helping in other departments when needed.
• Use approved protective gear such as safety shoes, gloves, side-shield safety glasses, respirators, and hearing protection.
• Follow safety rules, company procedures, and work practices to protect yourself, coworkers, and equipment.

Tools and equipment

Depending on the department and site, you may work with tools and equipment such as hammers, wrenches, hoists, line carts, multi-head drills, tuggers, circular saws, drills, impacts, rivet guns, staplers, caulk applicators, and routers. Training is provided so new team members can become comfortable with the role.

Qualifications

• You must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
• Basic reading, writing, and verbal communication skills are required.

Experience and training

Previous experience and formal education are helpful but not mandatory. All assembler roles include training, and after receiving an offer, you will complete orientation and several days of production-floor training.

Work environment and physical demands

This job is performed in an environment where safety, environmental, and health awareness must stay front and center. You may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. Some job sites can be extremely loud and hot at times. Employees on the production floor are required to wear the necessary PPE.

Physically, this role requires standing, walking, leaning, pushing, climbing, sitting, bending, kneeling, stooping, handling materials, and operating tools or controls for the full shift. You should have full range of motion in your arms and hands, be able to communicate effectively with coworkers, and in some cases work in tight spaces. Frequent lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds may be required. Good close vision, the ability to adjust focus, and strong hand-eye coordination are also important.
