Role overview
American Express is hiring a Decision Science Analyst to join its Credit and Fraud Risk organization in Singapore. The position focuses on using analytics, machine learning, and business problem-solving to improve digital customer experiences and support smarter decision-making across consumer and commercial products worldwide.
The team works on enterprise risk management across the customer lifecycle, designing data-driven frameworks, building predictive models, and improving servicing and optimization strategies. The role combines analytical depth with practical business impact, and it involves working with large-scale digital data from web, app, API, and external sources in a big data environment.
What you'll do
- Create outputs ranging from simple reporting to advanced machine learning models and algorithms that improve online and mobile app experiences.
- Partner with product owners to reshape product and content decisions using data-backed insights.
- Collaborate with technology teams to test, implement, and release modeling solutions into production.
- Translate customer behavior data into actionable insights and new analytical approaches.
- Use the closed-loop network to make decisions more intelligent, relevant, and effective.
- Work with very large digital datasets, including web, app, API, and external data, using advanced tools in a large-scale data environment.
- Continuously explore better ways to solve problems through big data and machine learning methods.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Operations Research, or a related field; alternatively, an MBA with hands-on experience in advanced analytics and machine learning.
- Strong command of an analytical language such as Python or R, along with database experience in Hive, SQL, or similar tools.
- Working knowledge of SAS is considered a plus, though it is not mandatory.
- Solid understanding of machine learning and statistical techniques, including deep learning and boosting.
- Experience with data visualization is an advantage.
- Ability to turn business challenges into mathematical or analytical problem statements and design practical solutions using ideas and tools from academia or other industries.
- Comfortable working in a team setting and across functions.
- Self-driven, organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks at once.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Preferably 1 to 2 years of experience in AI/ML or data analytics.
- Quick learner who can work independently on complex, loosely defined projects.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with business partners across regions.
- Good presentation skills, including strong use of Excel and PowerPoint.
