Role overview
The Data Governance Analyst supports day-to-day governance operations by keeping data ownership, definitions, metadata, and related records accurate, organized, and easy to use. This position is focused on execution and maintenance rather than setting the overall governance strategy.
Core skills and competencies
To succeed in this role, you should understand the fundamentals of data governance, including ownership, stewardship, data standards, definitions, metadata, and data quality. Familiarity with data catalog, business glossary, metadata repository, or data dictionary concepts is important. The role also calls for experience in maintaining structured records such as documentation sets, trackers, and governance artifacts.
You should be able to capture and arrange business terms, definitions, data owners, data stewards, data domains, and other governance details. Practical knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, Confluence, Jira, or similar tools is required. A working understanding of data quality, lineage, classification, and lifecycle concepts is also needed.
Strong written communication is essential for producing meeting notes, governance summaries, issue logs, and other structured documents. You should be comfortable supporting workshops, interviews, and validation sessions with business and technical stakeholders, while following established templates, naming conventions, and governance procedures. The role also requires good coordination skills, careful follow-up, the ability to spot missing or conflicting information, and basic analytical thinking that bridges business language with data concepts.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will help implement and sustain data governance practices across the organization. You will keep documentation for data ownership, stewardship, data domains, and business glossaries current and well organized.
You will capture and structure metadata, business definitions, data rules, and governance attributes, while also helping maintain policies, standards, procedures, and guidance materials. A key part of the job is managing trackers, issue logs, decision logs, action logs, and follow-up records with stakeholders.
You will participate in interviews, workshops, working groups, and governance discussions, and then document outcomes, decisions, risks, actions, and open questions. The role also involves contributing to governance reports, status updates, dashboards, and presentation materials.
Additional duties include identifying gaps in ownership, definitions, metadata, standards, and adoption; working with business and technical teams to validate governance information; supporting the use of data catalog, metadata, glossary, or governance tools; and assisting data quality, privacy, compliance, and analytics teams with documentation needs. You will also prepare clean, reusable governance materials for future handover and ongoing use, and escalate unclear ownership, conflicting definitions, missing information, or unresolved actions to the Data Governance Specialist.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree is required in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, Management Information Systems, Information Management, Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Engineering, or a related field.
Arabic and English are both mandatory.
The role requires 2–4+ years of experience in data governance, business analysis, data analysis, metadata management, reporting, data quality, compliance support, documentation, or transformation work. Experience with workshops, structured documentation, trackers, and coordination between business and technical teams is preferred.
Preferred certifications
Relevant certifications are preferred, including DAMA CDMP Associate, DAMA Data Management Fundamentals training, certification or training in a data catalog or governance platform such as Collibra, Informatica, Alation, or Microsoft Purview, ECBA or CCBA where applicable, and foundation-level privacy, data protection, or compliance certification where relevant.
Additional information
This is a practical execution-focused position. The successful candidate is expected to keep governance information accurate, organized, maintained, and usable, while supporting teams across data quality, privacy, compliance, and analytics.
