Role overview
The Nurse Helper supports nursing staff in delivering patient care and works under the direction of the RN. This position is designed for day-to-day assistance in a clinical setting while following strict guidelines about what care-related tasks can and cannot be performed.
Responsibilities
- Support nurses with patient care duties as assigned under RN direction and within the scope of a Nurse Helper I role.
- Provide assistance only in ways that avoid direct contact with body fluids or devices containing body fluids, including items such as blood, urine, stool, saliva, dirty linens, emesis, urinary catheters, nasogastric tubes, drains, and used basins.
Required qualifications
Applicants must complete Basic Life Support certification within 30 days after joining, finish the standard WELLE® training, and complete the Nurse Helper training class before orientation on the nursing unit.
Preferred background
A high school diploma or GED is preferred for this role.

Schedule and workplace details
This is a full-time, non-exempt role based at Mease Dunedin within BayCare Health System’s Emergency Service-MDH facility. The shift runs from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and falls under Shift 1 (day shift). Weekend coverage is every other weekend. The job does not require on-call work and is not a remote position.
