Role overview

The Lead, Global Reliability Engineering is accountable for setting and advancing the global reliability direction for Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine. The main emphasis is on predictive maintenance, practical technology adoption, improving equipment availability, and strengthening asset performance across the network.

This position partners with manufacturing sites to identify, prioritize, and execute high-impact reliability initiatives that raise digital reliability maturity and improve operational outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Create and steer the global reliability strategy, with predictive maintenance and advanced analytics serving as the long-term direction.
• Lead the evaluation, design, and rollout of reliability technologies such as predictive maintenance, condition monitoring, AI/ML-based insights, sensor solutions, and digital twins.
• Drive the uptake of practical, scalable tools that improve equipment uptime and reduce unplanned stoppages.
• Work with site teams to identify major reliability risks and lead critical programs targeting chronic defects, recurring failures, and operational bottlenecks.
• Develop global standards, methods, and best practices for reliability, including root cause analysis, asset criticality, and lifecycle reliability processes.
• Use performance metrics, KPIs, and digital dashboards to improve visibility, support benchmarking, and guide actions.
• Partner with Global Maintenance, Automation, and IT teams to connect reliability solutions with CMMS, ERP, and data platforms.
• Advise sites on predictive maintenance planning, implementation, and capability development.
• Help shape long-term asset reliability roadmaps aligned to digital and operational trends.
• Coach and develop a network of reliability engineers and specialists across manufacturing sites.

Required qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a technical field is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
• At least 10 to 15+ years of experience in reliability engineering, maintenance engineering, or technical operations within regulated manufacturing settings.
• Deep knowledge of predictive maintenance, condition monitoring, and digital reliability tools.
• Proven success leading complex reliability programs across multiple sites and delivering measurable gains.
• Hands-on experience with root cause analysis, criticality assessment, lifecycle asset management, and reliability frameworks.
• Exposure to digital platforms such as CMMS, asset performance systems, and industrial data architectures.
• Strong communication, influence, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across functions and global teams.
• Solid commercial and operational judgment; experience in GMP manufacturing is strongly preferred.

Compensation and benefits

The expected base salary range for this role is €96,000 to €165,025.

In addition to base pay, the package may include an annual bonus tied to pay grade/location and performance, or sales commissions where applicable. Benefits also include vacation days, parental leave for at least 12 weeks, bereavement leave, caregiver leave, volunteer leave, well-being reimbursement, and support programs for financial, physical, and mental health.
