Woolworths Group is a large, purpose-led organisation with more than 200,000 people working together to improve everyday experiences for over 24 million customers each week. The company describes itself as a place where fresh ideas, bold decisions, and practical innovation are encouraged, with a focus on delivering better outcomes for the future.

Role overview

As a Data/AI/ML Engineer, you will shape and support the next generation of data infrastructure. The role combines scalable data modelling, cloud platform ownership, and AI-enabled development practices to create secure, high-quality data products for analysts, downstream users, and AI agents.

Key responsibilities

  • Build well-structured, scalable data environments using advanced dimensional modelling techniques that support both analytics and LLM interpretability.
  • Create and maintain dependable, modular pipelines that ingest raw data and convert it into usable, consumption-ready outputs.
  • Act as the technical owner for GCP and GitHub environments, including infrastructure-as-code and secure CI/CD delivery.
  • Introduce AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code and GitHub Copilot into everyday engineering workflows to improve speed and code quality.
  • Develop APIs and data products that allow autonomous agents and conversational systems to access and explore the platform.
  • Maintain strong standards for data quality, code hygiene, security, and platform monitoring.

What you bring

You should have a solid grounding in modern data warehousing and dimensional modelling, along with practical experience building agentic workflows and AI-driven automation. A strong engineering mindset, combined with curiosity and a willingness to grow, will help you succeed in this fast-moving GenAI and data infrastructure environment.

  • Strong experience in relational design and dimensional modelling within a cloud data warehouse environment.
  • Hands-on work with agentic workflows and advanced coding assistants to expand platform capability.
  • Practical knowledge of SQL, Python, dbt, and GCP for building efficient, scalable data pipelines.
  • Commitment to disciplined software engineering, including secure, clean, and well-tested code.
  • 3–5 years of core engineering experience, including shipping autonomous AI tools.

Work environment and benefits

  • Hybrid working model that balances time in an office or hub with work from home.
  • A high-impact position that supports teams serving the wider community.
  • Exposure to a large global business with opportunities across many disciplines.
  • Access to wellbeing support programs, including 24/7 use of the Sonder app.
  • A competitive leave policy designed to give you more time for what matters.
  • Team discounts across Woolworths Group brands and a rewards program that recognises purpose-driven work.

Inclusion and hiring support

The organisation welcomes applications from all candidates and is committed to creating a workplace where people from different backgrounds can belong, contribute, and reach their potential. Applicants may request support or adjustments during the hiring process.
