Description de l'emploi

Company overview

Deloitte New Zealand is looking for an AI Engineer to join its Auckland office and help design artificial intelligence solutions for internal teams and external clients. This is a hands-on role focused on building, deploying, and supporting generative and agentic AI systems across different platforms and technical settings.

The work combines engineering delivery, cloud-based implementation, and applied AI problem-solving. You will contribute to projects that span industries and business functions, with regular opportunities to deepen your expertise in generative AI, agentic workflows, cloud engineering, and modern AI delivery practices.

Please note that candidates must be legally permitted to work in New Zealand from the time they apply.

Role overview

This position sits within a team delivering full-cycle AI solutions, from early scoping and design through to production support. The work includes building multi-agent workflows, connecting AI systems with enterprise data and platforms, and helping create reusable tools and accelerators that support Deloitte’s consulting teams.

You will also work closely with GenAI leaders, directors, and partners who will provide direction, support your development, and help align your growth with opportunities across the business.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop end-to-end generative and agentic AI solutions and deliver sprint goals from initial idea through production in a fast-moving environment.
  • Work with Deloitte’s cross-functional teams to gather technical needs and design, build, and deploy AI solutions for complex enterprise settings.
  • Set up strong LLMOps practices, including automated evaluation, tracing and observability, offline and online testing, prompt version control, safety red-teaming, and optimisation of cost and latency.
  • Build models and pipelines using containers, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and cloud-native services while embedding security, privacy, and responsible AI controls throughout the software lifecycle.
  • Design retrieval and grounding approaches such as chunking, hybrid search, and metadata filtering, and use feedback mechanisms to improve reliability, quality, and factual accuracy.
  • Work with engagement leads to estimate, scope, and deliver work packages, and contribute to accelerators, reference architectures, and reusable GenAI assets.
  • Keep up with the latest tools, frameworks, and delivery methods in the generative AI space.
  • Support and guide colleagues, including mentoring junior team members and sharing technical expertise.

Candidate profile

You should bring hands-on experience in customer-facing roles such as Generative AI Engineer, Agentic AI Engineer, Technical Analyst, Consultant, or Lead within professional services or a technology vendor environment.

The role calls for strong cloud-native engineering capability, a solid grounding in CI/CD, DevOps or LLMOps, and infrastructure as code. You should also be able to translate business problems into practical and scalable AI solutions through strong business analysis and functional design skills.

Experience building and delivering complete generative and agentic AI systems on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP, or OCI is important, and relevant certifications would be an advantage.

Hands-on experience with vector databases, embedding models, retrieval frameworks, and evaluation techniques is expected, along with knowledge of AI safety, governance, and risk management practices such as prompt-injection protection, PII handling, content moderation, and auditability.

You should also be comfortable using observability and evaluation tools, profiling performance, and managing costs for generative AI workloads. Strong prioritisation, modern Git-based development practices, and experience with monorepos are beneficial.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills are needed, along with the ability to lead and mentor teams in an inclusive and positive way. A strong interest in generative AI and a commitment to continuous learning are essential.
