About the opportunity
An established freight and logistics operation is looking for a practical, experienced Warehouse Supervisor to help run daily warehouse and yard activities supporting island freight services. The role is central to keeping inbound and outbound freight moving safely, accurately and on schedule.
You will be responsible for making sure goods are received, documented and allocated correctly, and that outbound freight is loaded securely so it is ready for sailing departures. The work environment is fast-moving and requires a hands-on approach, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to safe and compliant freight handling.
The position is mainly Monday to Friday, with shifts starting between 5:30am and 6:00am and ending between 3:00pm and 4:00pm. From time to time, Saturday work may be needed to cover business needs, including disruptions caused by weather.
Key accountabilities
- Assist with the everyday running of the warehouse and yard
- Make sure freight is received, labelled, scanned and sent to the correct destination without errors
- Safely load and unload trucks and trailers in an efficient manner
- Check paperwork, consignment notes and Dangerous Goods compliance requirements
- Confirm that loads are properly secured, legally compliant and within weight limits
- Oversee traffic movement and help keep the site safe and orderly
- Ensure chilled and frozen products are stored quickly and correctly
- Keep the work area clean, organised and free from hazards
- Guide, coach and support other team members
- Deliver professional service to both internal and external stakeholders
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you should bring practical freight, warehouse and people leadership experience, along with the licences and compliance knowledge needed for safe operations.
- Forklift licence
- Full Class 1 driving licence or higher
- Dangerous Goods Certificate
- Current First Aid Certificate is helpful but not essential
- Sound knowledge of safe loading methods, strapping and freight handling practices
- Experience dealing with oversized freight such as 10-14 metre timber, water tanks and similar large items is an advantage
- Ability to read and interpret freight paperwork and load plans accurately
- Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritise when under pressure
- Background in warehousing, logistics or freight operations
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience
- Reliable transport to support early morning start times
