Descripción del trabajo
About the company
Butler Labs is described as the collaborative AI workspace that helps teams and agents work together in one place. The platform brings knowledge, projects, meetings, and AI tools into a single environment so work feels faster, clearer, and less fragmented. It is used by individuals, small teams, and large enterprises.
Employees are expected to be among the first users of the product and to help shape the future of work through thoughtful, durable engineering. The organization emphasizes craft, long-term quality, and the idea that meaningful work remains deeply human even in the AI era. The broader mission is to help customers spend less time on busy work and more time on work that matters.
Role overview
In this engineering role, you will contribute to core product experiences and help people find value in the product more quickly. The work involves solving important problems with growing independence, writing code that reaches a large user base, and making technical decisions that influence the product direction. You will collaborate with design, product, and data teams to build the next generation of user experiences.
This opening is for new graduate engineers across multiple teams. The hiring team will match candidates to the group that best fits their interests and where they can create the greatest impact.
What you will do
- Collaborate with teammates to define, build, and maintain new product features end to end, from idea generation and research through implementation and ongoing support.
- Contribute to adoption and onboarding improvements by measuring key moments in the user journey and refining activation flows.
- Work on speed and reliability improvements, as well as general feature polish and quality upgrades.
- Develop internal tools that improve team efficiency and simplicity, such as scripts that bring user feedback into the workspace.
- Make informed technical choices and take ownership of projects that have real product impact.
Requirements
To be considered, you should be working toward a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline, and you must be available to begin full-time before July 27, 2026. Prior internship experience is required. You should also be developing proficiency in at least one programming language such as TypeScript, Node.js, or Python.
The ideal candidate takes an impact-first approach to engineering, treating technology as a means to solve user problems rather than as an end in itself. You should be comfortable using modern AI-assisted development tools, practical about tool selection, and focused on value creation. Strong problem-solving ability is important, including the ability to break down complex issues, work independently or with others, and ask for help when needed.
You are expected to take ownership of your work, communicate progress and blockers clearly, and show initiative without waiting for every instruction. Teamwork matters here, so the role suits someone who enjoys cross-functional collaboration and helping others grow. A strong interest in web applications is important, along with the ability to build and maintain user interfaces using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and a modern framework such as React. Familiarity with how front-end, data models, and backend systems connect is also useful; experience with databases such as Postgres, MySQL, or MongoDB is considered an advantage.
Nice-to-have experience
Additional value will come from hands-on experience with the existing stack, including React, TypeScript, Node.js, Postgres, and Elasticsearch. A builder mindset, curiosity about the relationship between technology and society, and awareness of influential computing pioneers are also viewed positively.
Compensation and benefits
The company states that it offers highly competitive cash compensation, equity, and benefits. Compensation depends on factors such as location, role scope, complexity, experience, and expertise. For San Francisco or New York City, the estimated annual base salary range is $126,000 to $146,000.
Application and policy notes
Submitting an application means agreeing that the company and its affiliates may collect and process applicant information according to its global recruiting privacy policy.
AI expectations
Team members are expected to be curious, enjoy experimentation, and use AI as a practical collaborator in their work. Deep AI specialization is not required for every role, but in some positions AI fluency may be explicitly required. The culture favors people who use AI to think better and make their work easier for others to build on.
Equal opportunity and accommodations
The employer welcomes applicants from many backgrounds and encourages people to apply even if they do not match every requirement. It is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of any legally protected characteristic. Qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records may be considered where allowed by law. Reasonable accommodations are available during the hiring process, including support for applicants with disabilities and disabled veterans.
The organization also states that it does not make hiring decisions based on race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, pregnancy, marital status, ancestry, disability, genetic information, veteran status, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, or other protected characteristics, consistent with applicable law.
