Role overview
This position is for a senior-level optical engineering professional based in Singapore. The role centers on designing and improving photonics-based devices and systems, with particular emphasis on laser technology. It also involves guiding engineering work during product development and technology transfer, and helping move new products into high-volume manufacturing.
Key responsibilities
- Create, refine, and enhance photonics devices and systems, especially those involving lasers.
- Act as a technical lead and support engineering execution during product and technology transfer work.
- Assist with launching new products into volume production by training shop-floor staff and preparing clear work instructions.
- Support cross-functional manufacturing operations by diagnosing issues in components, products, and systems, and by testing new and existing designs with proper documentation through engineering change procedures.
- Plan and run optical experiments and characterization setups to confirm performance and verify that specifications are met.
- Help drive cost-reduction efforts and use data-based analysis to identify the root cause of technical problems, then recommend and carry out corrective actions.
- Take part in reliability assessments, failure investigations, and qualification activities for optical components and systems.
- Make sure all design and testing work follows the applicable optical, safety, and industry requirements.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or PhD in Laser, Optics, Photonics, or a closely related field.
- At least 5 years of engineering experience working with photonics devices or systems.
- Hands-on experience in laser design, development, and testing.
- Experience in semiconductor or precision manufacturing environments is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of laser systems, optics, and photonics components.
- Proven exposure to test and measurement tools, along with test station development.
- Knowledge of optical modeling tools such as Zemax will be beneficial.
- Previous experience with manufacturing methods and procedures is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication abilities.
- Ability to work well in a team and collaborate across different functions.
- Well-developed structured problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
