Role overview
We are looking for a seasoned Customs Agent to manage import and export clearances for movements across Great Britain and the EU through a partner network. The position suits someone with solid technical customs expertise, particularly in DEFRA, APHA, and IPAFF requirements.
What you will do
- Prepare and file customs declarations for imports, exports, and transit movements covering UK and EU shipments.
- Make sure all activity follows current UK and EU customs rules and procedures.
- Check commercial invoices, packing lists, and transport paperwork to confirm the details are correct.
- Work with HMRC, ports, and freight forwarders to close out clearance problems.
- Handle customs queries, inspections, and requests for supporting documents.
- Track shipments and respond quickly to any delay, mismatch, or documentation issue.
- Keep records accurate and audit-ready in line with customs compliance standards.
Required experience and knowledge
This role calls for previous hands-on experience in a Customs Agent or Customs Clerk position. You should understand UK and EU customs processes well, including import/export work, IPAFF declarations, tariff classification, transit, special procedures, and duty reliefs. You also need to be highly detail-oriented, able to stay calm under pressure, and confident in communication and organisation. Experience with customs declaration software is required.
Benefits and working conditions
- Annual salary of £28,000 to £30,000.
- 28 days of holiday per year.
- Late-shift working pattern, with some weekend availability potentially needed.
- Supportive team environment with experienced colleagues.
- Ongoing learning and development opportunities.
- Room for career growth within an expanding customs agency.
- Work-from-home flexibility.
Additional information
This role is focused on customs clearance operations and regulatory support for cross-border trade. Strong technical knowledge of customs legislation and documentation is essential.
