Role overview
This position is for a Supplier Quality Engineer handling the fabrication commodity. The role is based between Ather’s corporate office in Bengaluru and the factory in Hosur, and reports to the Group Lead SQA or Lead SQA within the Supplier Quality team under the Quality function.
About the team
The Quality and Supplier Quality team works to track and improve supplier performance indicators such as PPM, NCRs, and Straight Pass Ratio so that fabrication quality remains at a world-class level.
What this role focuses on
The person in this role will work on supplier process reviews, APQP, and PPAP execution for fabrication parts, with the goal of identifying and reducing manufacturing risks before production ramps up.
Key responsibilities
- Track supplier quality measures for fabrication components, including defect rates, non-conformance reports, and straight pass performance.
- Drive improvement actions with suppliers, close non-conformities, handle internal rejections, and strengthen first-pass results.
- Log quality defects and process deviations, and ensure containment, root-cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions are completed on time.
- Execute advanced quality workflows such as APQP, DFM, and PPAP for newly introduced or modified fabrication parts.
- Assess engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, and supplier PFMEAs to reduce production and quality risks.
- Validate and approve supplier measurement systems, CMM programs, inspection fixtures, and tooling readiness for critical dimensions.
- Oversee preventive maintenance plans and line-setup recovery activities for fabrication equipment at supplier sites.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Management, and Design Engineering teams to support strong build quality.
Experience and qualifications
Candidates should hold a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Automobile Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, along with 7 to 10 years of relevant supplier quality experience specifically in fabrication parts.
Must-have competencies
- Knowledge of manufacturing quality and process design for automotive fabrication components, including tubular and sheet metal structures.
- Hands-on use of structured problem-solving methods such as 8D and 7QC tools.
- Working knowledge of supplier quality systems like APQP and PPAP.
- Ability to evaluate designs using DFM, DFA, and FMEA principles.
Good-to-have competencies
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and GD&T specifications.
- Experience validating measurement systems, inspection fixtures, and CMM setups.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance planning and restoring supplier line setups.
- Comfort working across design and supplier manufacturing teams to align on execution.
