Role overview
Northpower supports communities across Aotearoa by delivering important electricity and infrastructure services. The team is seeking a safety-focused Cable Jointer – Standover to contribute to civil and utility projects, with a strong emphasis on protecting underground assets and maintaining high standards of workmanship.
This opportunity suits someone with hands-on cable jointing experience who can confidently supervise external work near underground infrastructure and help ensure that all activity is carried out safely, compliantly, and to the required quality.
Key duties
- Monitor civil and construction work carried out by third parties near Northpower’s underground network.
- Serve as the on-site point of contact to confirm that work meets safety and technical requirements.
- Offer direction and practical assistance on cable jointing methods and good working practices.
- Spot potential threats to underground assets and take steps to reduce those risks.
- Work closely with contractors, customers, and internal stakeholders to keep communication clear and outcomes safe.
- Carry out inspections and record site activity in accordance with compliance obligations.
Experience and capability
- Hands-on background in cable jointing or underground electrical work.
- Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental compliance.
- Confidence to halt work when a safety or asset risk is identified.
- Well-developed communication and relationship-building skills.
- Good working knowledge of utility protection practices and underground service detection.
- Current driver licence (Class 1 minimum); Class 2 and/or WTR endorsements would be an advantage.
