Role Overview
This is a full-time, on-vessel Wiper position based from Andhra Pradesh, India. The role supports the engine department by helping keep machinery spaces, engine rooms, and related equipment clean and orderly. The Wiper will assist with routine upkeep, basic maintenance tasks, and general engine-room support under the supervision of engineers.
Key Duties
- Clean up oil leaks and spills, and keep surfaces in machinery areas wiped and orderly.
- Look after tools and equipment so they remain usable and in proper condition.
- Support engineers with routine inspections, small repairs, and general maintenance work under guidance.
- Follow onboard safety rules, use protective gear correctly, and take part in safety drills.
- Assist with engine room watchkeeping responsibilities when assigned.
- Maintain simple logs, checklists, or records as required.
- Work closely with the engineering team to help keep engine-room operations running smoothly.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Working understanding of engine-room activity, basic mechanical systems, and safe use of tools and machinery.
- Strong commitment to maritime safety practices, including correct use of personal protective equipment and onboard procedures.
- Ability to follow directions carefully, work well in a mixed team, and remain disciplined in a structured setting.
- Physical stamina and fitness to work in confined spaces, at sea, and in changing weather and temperature conditions.
- Completion of the required pre-sea training for engine ratings such as Wiper/Oiler, along with valid STCW certifications as per regulatory standards.
- Valid medical fitness certificate and seafarer documents such as passport and Seaman’s Book/Continuous Discharge Certificate, as required by the flag state and company rules.
- Basic English communication ability to understand instructions, safety notices, and operating procedures; knowledge of additional languages is beneficial.
- Previous sea service or experience in an industrial or mechanical setting is an added advantage, but not compulsory for beginners.
