Position Summary

Cancer Hope Network supports people affected by cancer through a national network of trained survivor and caregiver mentors who offer one-on-one peer support to patients, caregivers, and loved ones looking for understanding, connection, and encouragement.

The Program Director will lead and oversee the organization’s peer mentorship programs, making sure services are delivered effectively, consistently, and in line with the mission. This is a leadership role for someone who can balance strategic planning with hands-on program execution.

The role includes responsibility for program delivery, team leadership, evaluation, and ongoing quality improvement, along with building strong partnerships across healthcare, community, and organizational networks that help advance the mission.

Reporting to the CEO and working as part of the leadership team, the Program Director collaborates across the organization to support strategic goals, improve program performance, and grow the reach and impact of peer support services for people affected by cancer across the United States.

Key Responsibilities

Program Operations

  • Direct the planning, rollout, and assessment of peer mentorship programs and related initiatives.
  • Make sure all program activity stays aligned with organizational objectives, national expectations, and the changing needs of patients and caregivers.
  • Oversee sub-programs such as CHN en Español, Hopeful Hearts, and Talking About Clinical Trials (TACT).
  • Put quality assurance and continuous improvement practices into place across the programs.
  • Strengthen the recruitment, engagement, training, and retention of the volunteer mentor network.
  • Contribute to budget planning and resource allocation conversations tied to program delivery.

Programs Team Management

  • Set clear responsibilities, expectations, and performance objectives that reflect organizational priorities.
  • Provide regular supervision, coaching, and performance reviews to maintain strong service quality.
  • Ensure the team consistently follows program policies, procedures, and quality standards.

Partnership Development and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support partnership-building and relationship management efforts that broaden program reach, referral channels, mentor recruitment, and long-term sustainability.
  • Serve as a point of contact between the organization and outside partners to promote alignment and collaboration.
  • Look for opportunities to expand and improve programs based on community needs and feedback from partners.
  • Help develop initiatives that support sustainability and continued organizational growth.

Data and Reporting

  • Use program data to guide strategy and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting for internal leadership, the Board of Trustees, funders, and external partners.
  • Assist in building metrics and evaluation methods that demonstrate program effectiveness.

Location and Travel

This is a remote role open anywhere within the United States. Some travel will be needed for team meetings, conferences, partner meetings, and organizational events.

  • 2–3 years of experience supervising staff and managing performance.
  • Proven experience leading programs, initiatives, or service delivery functions with measurable results.
  • Strong relationship-building ability and experience working with external stakeholders, community groups, healthcare providers, or institutional partners.
