Baycrest Hospital provides specialized post-acute inpatient care for older adults, combining expertise in aging and brain health with compassionate, high-quality clinical service.
Role overview
This temporary full-time physiotherapy position supports a range of programs including Complex Continuing Care, Slow Stream Rehabilitation, Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation High-Tolerance areas, Behavioral Neurology, and Ambulatory Services such as the Day Treatment Centre and ICCT. The physiotherapist will be part of an interprofessional team focused on helping patients reach their highest possible physical and functional independence and return to community living whenever feasible. The role reports to the Manager & Interprofessional Practice Chief for Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy & Therapeutic Recreation and works closely with Clinical Unit Managers to support strong patient care delivery.
Key duties
- Carry out assessments, care planning, treatment delivery, and discharge preparation for patients with complex geriatric, neurological, and musculoskeletal needs.
- Contribute to the training and mentorship of physiotherapy students and physiotherapy assistants.
- Promote a client-focused, evidence-informed approach to care, while helping with program development, review, and professional practice improvement alongside the interprofessional team, volunteers, and physiotherapy colleagues.
- Set patient care plans and provide guidance, oversight, and ongoing monitoring for physiotherapy assistants.
Required qualifications
- Current licensure in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.
- Membership in, or eligibility for membership with, the Canadian Physiotherapy Association is considered an advantage.
- Prior experience working with older adults who have multiple health conditions and/or cognitive impairment is preferred.
- Background in clinical instruction or student teaching is an asset.
- Interest in or experience with building evidence-based programs is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, time management, and problem-solving abilities are needed.
- Computer proficiency in Meditech, MDS, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is required.
Work schedule and employment details
This is a temporary full-time role for up to 6 weeks. Shifts are scheduled for daytime hours, with some weekends, and may change based on operational needs. The standard commitment is 75 hours every two weeks, with 7.5 hours per shift. The position is covered by OPSEU 583.
Compensation
The hourly wage is $40.36 to $56.30.
