Role overview
This is a 12-month fixed-term contract for an experienced Senior Learning & Development Project Officer. The position supports the creation, coordination, delivery, and ongoing improvement of effective learning solutions that strengthen workforce capability. The role operates in a complex, secure environment and requires close collaboration with subject matter experts and business stakeholders to build training that aligns with organisational goals and operational needs. The role is based on-site in Canberra or Melbourne.
Key responsibilities
- Create and deliver engaging learning experiences for adult audiences using modern instructional design methods.
- Coordinate and facilitate learning activities across in-person, virtual, and digital training formats.
- Prepare training content, learner handbooks, facilitator packs, and related support documents.
- Oversee learning and development activities such as scheduling, stakeholder coordination, reporting, and quality checks.
- Review learning effectiveness and improve programs using feedback, data insights, and post-activity learnings.
- Maintain training records and reporting through learning management systems and associated tools.
- Work with stakeholders, subject matter experts, vendors, and service providers to identify learning needs and deliver strong outcomes.
- Assist with organisational change efforts through training support, communications, and adoption activities.
- Contribute to project planning, governance, and reporting tasks as needed.
Candidate profile
- Proven background in designing, developing, and delivering learning and development programs for adult learners in complex organisations.
- Solid understanding of instructional design, adult learning principles, and learning evaluation approaches.
- Experience building blended learning solutions across classroom, virtual, and e-learning channels.
- Hands-on use of Learning Management Systems and learning technologies for training administration, tracking, and reporting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain information clearly to different audiences.
- Well-developed stakeholder management and relationship-building ability, including cross-functional collaboration.
- Excellent planning and organisation skills, with the ability to juggle competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Commitment to continuous improvement, quality assurance, and evidence-based learning practice.
- Background in government, Defence, or similarly regulated environments will be viewed favourably.
- Ability to secure and maintain the necessary security clearance and complete relevant suitability checks.
- Must already hold a TPSV or Positive Vetting security clearance.
- A valid Vulnerable People / Working with Children Check (WWCC) and Police Check are required.
