Role overview
This position is responsible for keeping the store clean, sanitary, and safe so customers can shop with confidence. The role focuses on maintaining floor surfaces, restrooms, and back-of-house areas to company standards while helping create a welcoming environment that supports customer loyalty. Key duties
- Maintain cleanliness and order in the sales floor, liquor store, offices, break rooms, back rooms, training rooms, and approximately 70% of restroom duties, while reducing safety risks in these areas.
- Use floor-care equipment, department tools, and cleaning chemicals correctly to carry out assigned tasks.
- Sweep or vacuum mats and rugs, then place them back in their original position after cleaning.
- Remove carpet stains, empty trash, and complete deep-cleaning tasks in restrooms.
- Help customers feel welcomed and valued by providing support or pointing them toward the right product when needed.
- Work to maintain daily store conditions that meet the company’s expectations for cleanliness and sanitation.
- Follow safety rules, food-handling standards, sanitation requirements, and productivity expectations at all times.
- Comply with applicable regulatory requirements, including USDA rules, COOL requirements, and Department of Agriculture standards.
- Carry out product recalls and withdrawals quickly, making sure affected items are secured and kept away from customers.
- Support safety programs by following procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, and reporting hazards to store leadership.
- Report customer or employee accidents, as well as any safety concerns, policy violations, or illegal activity such as robbery, theft, or fraud.
- Follow wage and hour rules and help build a strong safety culture throughout the store.
- Ensure all associates work safely, receive required safety training, and have access to posted hazard assessments and proper PPE.
- Keep equipment in good working order and assist with correcting safety issues, including lockout/tagout steps when needed.
- Perform other work-related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- English is required; Spanish is preferred.
- 0 to 3 years of relevant experience is required.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States, or able to obtain authorization.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
- Strong customer service ability is required.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and motivation skills are required.
- This role involves heavy retail physical work and may require standing, walking, repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and exposure to varied indoor and outdoor conditions.
- Potential working conditions include cold, freezing, heated, and wet or humid environments.
- Safety risks may include slippery or cluttered floors, sharp objects, hazardous equipment, loud noise, skin irritants, dust, fumes, sprays, and cleaning chemicals or other toxins.
- Required equipment may include cleaning supplies and tools, office equipment, register, pricing gun, scales, scanner, and material-handling equipment such as racks, carts, pallet jacks, and shopping carts.
- Preferred equipment includes a baler/compactor and box cutter.
- Protective equipment used in this role includes goggles, gloves, and a back brace.
- Pulling requirement: 250 lbs.
- Lifting requirement: 50 lbs.
- Travel may be occasional, with no overnight travel expected.
- Work schedules may vary across shifts.
