The Role
Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Ltd ("MGP") and its consolidated Group are seeking a Financial Controller to lead the Financial Control function, reporting to the Accounting, Tax & Treasury Director. The position involves leadership across Financial Reporting, Transactional Services, Payroll, and Capital Accounting, with ultimate responsibility for the financial control environment, statutory reporting, audit processes, and month/year-end closing procedures. As the lead for Financial Control, you will safeguard the Group's accounting policies and IFRS reporting framework, ensuring these evolve with the business. You will also spearhead continuous improvement in Financial Control activities, optimizing the use of financial systems like SAP S/4HANA and BlackLine, and supporting the Finance function's transition to SAP RISE and other strategic transformations. Collaboration with the Accounting, Tax & Treasury Director will be key to providing leadership in financial accounting and reporting while maintaining operational involvement for effective delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Financial Control function, fostering a high-performance culture centered on accountability and continuous improvement.
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to the Financial Reporting, Transactional Services, Payroll, and Capital Accounting teams.
- Serve as the primary technical accounting authority, maintaining ownership of accounting policies and IFRS reporting frameworks.
- Own and continuously enhance the financial control environment, including policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Ensure strict compliance with UK-adopted IFRS, Companies Act regulations, and all statutory reporting mandates.
- Manage and oversee the month-end and year-end close processes, guaranteeing accuracy, timeliness, and robust controls.
- Review and approve all financial reporting outputs, including detailed balance sheet reconciliations, provisions, accruals, and consolidation adjustments.
- Supervise the timely generation of management, shareholder, and statutory reports.
- Lead the annual audit process and act as the main point of contact for external auditors.
- Review and approve statutory financial statements and disclosures for both MGP and the consolidated Group.
- Direct the balance sheet and cashflow planning processes, actively supporting business planning and forecasting cycles.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives within Financial Control, focusing on optimizing SAP S/4HANA and BlackLine functionalities.
- Contribute to Finance transformation projects, including the SAP RISE transition and automation programs.
- Proactively identify, manage, and mitigate financial risks across the organization.
- Offer support for treasury, liquidity planning, and other broader Finance initiatives as needed.
About You
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Must hold a professional accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA, or CIMA, or an equivalent.
- Possess substantial post-qualification experience in financial accounting, financial control, or external audit.
- Demonstrate strong technical accounting expertise, with in-depth knowledge of UK-adopted IFRS.
