About the Branch Banking Function
Axis Bank branches serve as the public face of the bank for retail customers and are a key part of its growth strategy. Branches contribute significantly to deposit mobilization from new-to-bank customers and support customer engagement across the bank’s products and services.
Role Overview
The Branch Operations Head is responsible for leading the customer sales officers and tellers at the branch, keeping day-to-day operations running smoothly, and putting in place measures that improve productivity and performance so branch financial targets are achieved. The role also carries accountability for ensuring that branch activity follows the bank’s policies, regulations, and compliance requirements.
Core Responsibilities
- Manage branch administration by overseeing daily functions such as cash handling, clearing, transfer, ECS/RTGS/NEFT, SB, CD, FDR, deposits, account opening, and customer service through a team of tellers and customer service officers.
- Address customer complaints and service issues promptly while maintaining strong service quality.
- Build and deepen important customer relationships to support steady business growth.
- Drive growth in account balances and help achieve the branch’s overall cross-sell target.
- Maintain cash balances within the permitted cash retention limit.
- Monitor income leakage, office accounts, and anti-money laundering controls.
- Ensure adherence to banking procedures, regulations, and internal policies, including review of the vault register and overdue management.
- Review branch operations reports and identify/track unusual or exceptional transactions.
- Manage internal and external audit activities and respond to audit queries without delay.
- Ensure customer service officers are properly trained on the bank’s products, processes, and policy framework.
Qualifications
A graduate or postgraduate degree is expected, with an MBA in Marketing preferred. Certifications in NCFM and AMFI are also required/preferred for the role.
Required Capabilities
- Understanding of banking products and service offerings.
- Working knowledge of regulatory standards and banking norms.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and the local language.
- Ability to manage complex customer situations effectively.
- Comfort in handling risk and uncertainty in a fast-changing, priority-driven environment.
- Capability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
