Role overview
Altus Group is hiring an Automation Test Engineer to strengthen its QA automation capability and help evolve how testing is done across its products. This is a practical, hands-on role focused on building dependable automated testing solutions, improving quality across the software lifecycle, and supporting delivery in a modern DevOps environment.
The position reports to the Development Manager and is suited to someone who enjoys owning quality outcomes, collaborating with developers and stakeholders, and introducing better ways to test web, cloud, and integrated systems.
Compensation
The base salary for this position is NZD 80,000 to NZD 110,000. This range is provided where required by local regulations and represents base pay only. Actual offers may vary depending on experience, market conditions, and other relevant considerations. Additional compensation such as bonuses, equity, benefits, or other incentives is not included in this range.
What you will do
You will help shape automated testing standards, define release readiness criteria, and maintain test plans that align with delivery schedules. The role involves both manual and automated testing, writing and maintaining automation scripts, supporting UAT, and working closely with development and QA stakeholders to find defects early.
You will also evaluate tools and frameworks that suit the environment, and integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines so quality is built into the development process from the start. A willingness to explore new testing approaches and technologies is important.
What we are looking for
Altus Group is seeking someone with a solid background in automation testing and experience creating test strategies and frameworks from the ground up. Hands-on experience with tools such as Playwright or Selenium is highly valued. You should have a strong grasp of testing methods, defect management, and SDLC practices.
The role calls for familiarity with Jira, Confluence, DevOps, and Postman, along with exposure to UI, backend, and API testing. Experience with C#, TypeScript, JavaScript, and HTML is preferred. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-directed, organised, and comfortable taking ownership of product quality.
A degree or diploma in a relevant field and a QA certification are preferred. Applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
What Altus Group offers
Altus Group provides competitive compensation, incentive and bonus plans, and a total rewards package that supports mental, physical, and financial wellbeing. The company also invests heavily in learning and development through Altus Intelligence Academy, which offers more than 150,000 hours of learning content.
The organisation uses an Activity-Based Work model that allows flexibility to choose the right place to work depending on the task, whether that is the office for collaboration or remote work for focused activity. Altus Group also emphasises inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunity for all candidates and employees.
Additional information
AI tools may be used during the early screening stage, but final assessments and hiring decisions are made by an Altus Group hiring professional.
As part of its hiring process, Altus Group may carry out background checks on candidates who receive a conditional offer. These checks may include employment history, education verification, criminal records, credit history where relevant, and reference checks, depending on the role, location, and applicable laws.
Only candidates selected to move forward in the process will be contacted.
If accommodation is needed during the recruitment process, candidates can contact Altus Group for accessible support.
