Tow Driver

Job Overview

This full-time role involves operating a company tow or transport vehicle to collect vehicles from auto auctions or private sellers and move them safely to the plant. The position includes loading vehicles, checking that each load is correct and secure, handling related paperwork, using a company cheque to pay for vehicles when required, collecting signatures at pickup points, and transporting any other items tied to the load.

Key Duties

• Operate a company vehicle safely, courteously, and responsibly while avoiding collisions and traffic violations.
• Follow DOT procedures and comply with FMCSA rules and other applicable transportation regulations.
• Collect vehicles from auctions or private parties and load them onto the truck.
• Secure each vehicle, inspect the truck and cargo condition, and gather all related documents.
• Travel from the plant to the assigned pickup location, locate and verify the vehicles listed on the order, and confirm the pickup details.
• Obtain signatures at pickup locations to confirm the accuracy of the load and the vehicles received.
• Record appropriate notes on the vehicles as needed.
• Take care to avoid personal injury and prevent damage to vehicles.
• Follow company policies, procedures, and assigned training requirements.
• Complete annual training as assigned.
• Carry out additional duties as directed.
• Walk the yard and place debris inside vehicles being removed from the yard.

Supervision

This position does not include responsibility for supervising other employees.

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED is preferred.
• At least 1 year of related experience is preferred.
• At least 6 months of warehouse operations experience is preferred.
• At least 1 year of commercial driving experience, or completion of an accredited commercial driving school, is preferred.
• A valid driver’s license and a clean/safe driving history are required.
• Ability to qualify for company insurance programs, including vehicle insurance, is required.
• Must meet DOT physical and testing standards and understand DOT requirements.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Must comply with all state and local rules, as well as DOT and FMCSA regulations.

Skills and Abilities

• Comfort with basic arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Regular use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, graphics tools, and similar software.
• Ability to communicate simple messages verbally and keep brief written notes or records.
• Capability to handle routine, repetitive issues by following clear instructions and established procedures.
• Comfort working under guidance and priorities set by a supervisor or manager.
• Familiarity with mobile apps and mobile devices.

Work Conditions and Physical Requirements

• Most of the workday is spent driving.
• Ability to sit and drive for long stretches, up to 12 hours at a time.
• Must be able to use hands to operate equipment and complete job tasks.
• May need to stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, reach, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch for extended periods.
• Regular exposure to contaminants such as fuel and exhaust.
• Personal protective equipment may be required at times.
• Work may involve cramped spaces and awkward body positions.
• Exposure to extreme temperatures, lighting conditions, and high noise levels is possible.
• Daily travel is required, and overnight travel may also be needed.
• Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.

Compensation

The expected pay range is $20.00 to $25.00.
