Software Developer Intern

Role overview

Blackbox Research is hiring a motivated Software Developer Intern to contribute to the creation and enhancement of AI-enabled digital products, internal systems, and research-focused platforms. The internship is based in Singapore and is designed for students or recent graduates who want practical exposure to modern software development in a dynamic, innovation-led setting.

In this role, you will support product, research, and operations functions by helping build, test, improve, and maintain applications used for data capture, workflow automation, analytics, and customer engagement. You will also help strengthen the stability, ease of use, and operational readiness of fast-built prototype applications and AI-assisted tools.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development and upkeep of web and mobile applications used in research and AI-related solutions.
• Help turn prototype builds into more reliable, polished, and end-user-friendly tools.
• Perform testing, defect identification, debugging, and quality assurance across applications and workflows.
• Work on improving the dependability, usability, and long-term maintainability of AI-assisted or rapidly developed applications.
• Partner with product, research, and operations teams to support technical delivery needs.
• Assist with API connections, database-related tasks, and automation processes.
• Support release preparation, issue resolution, and application monitoring activities.
• Offer ideas that improve user experience and operational efficiency.
• Learn and apply modern development tools, AI technologies, and established software engineering practices.

Requirements

• Current student or recent graduate in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely related discipline.
• Foundational coding knowledge in one or more languages such as Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, Kotlin, or C++.
• Basic familiarity with web or mobile app development concepts.
• Understanding of APIs, databases, and software testing basics.
• Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.
• Good communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
• Interest in AI applications, automation tools, or digital product development.
• Nice to have: exposure to React, Flutter, Node.js, or Firebase.
• Nice to have: experience with Git or other version control tools.
• Nice to have: interest in AI/ML tools, conversational AI, or automation platforms.
