Role Overview
As a Starbucks Shift Supervisor, you will support the store manager in running day-to-day store operations during assigned shifts. In a team lead capacity, you will assign partners, delegate work, and help deliver the Starbucks experience through outstanding service, quality beverages and food, and a tidy, welcoming store.
You will also be expected to model Starbucks values and guiding principles while contributing to a workplace that is widely recognized as a strong place to build a career.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and product knowledge in a way that reflects Starbucks culture, mission, and values.
- Stay composed during busy periods or unexpected situations and set a steady example for the shift team.
- Watch for customer and store needs and adjust based on environmental cues.
- Keep the manager informed so the team can respond appropriately and maintain the desired “Third Place” experience throughout the shift.
- Support onboarding and training of new partners by reinforcing good performance and offering respectful, constructive coaching.
- Share partner performance updates with the store manager during the shift.
- Help build a positive team atmosphere by noticing morale or performance changes and raising them with the manager.
- Create a supportive learning environment by giving clear, timely, and respectful coaching to improve operational results and partner performance.
- Provide exceptional service by leading with a customer-first mindset and building genuine customer connections.
- Identify customer needs and respond effectively.
- Build strong working relationships with shift partners by understanding individual motivations, needs, and concerns.
- Run store operations during scheduled shifts.
- Organize opening and closing tasks as assigned.
- Follow operational procedures, including cash handling, safety, and security practices, to protect all partners during the shift.
- Ensure the team follows proper cash management and register procedures.
- Check in with baristas throughout the shift to support consistent, high-quality customer service.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
- Prepare beverages, whole-bean products, and food items according to recipe and presentation standards.
- Follow health, safety, and sanitation rules for all products.
- Recognize individual and team achievements and work with the store manager to find effective ways to celebrate success.
- Use operational tools to support excellence throughout the shift.
Experience and Skills
This role calls for prior customer service experience in a retail or restaurant setting, along with the ability to direct others, learn quickly, communicate clearly, work well with people, and contribute as part of a team.
