Role Overview
AbbVie is hiring an Environmental, Health and Safety Team Lead for its Ballytivnan site in Sligo, County Sligo, Ireland. This is a 1-year fixed-term contract reporting to the EHS Manager. The role is centered on maintaining the highest standards of environmental, health, and safety performance across the plant in a dynamic and highly regulated environment. It is also a strong opportunity to grow technical and leadership capability in EHS.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direction, oversight, and leadership for the environmental, health, and safety function.
- Set priorities, guide team output, maintain compliance, and support ongoing improvement across EHS initiatives.
- Lead, coach, and coordinate the team, with a focus on supervision and guidance rather than individual technical execution.
- Develop the EHS team so it can consistently support the site or business unit at a high standard.
- Define goals and work priorities for the EHS function in line with business objectives.
- Ensure EHS programs, systems, and compliance processes are implemented and maintained effectively.
- Track regulatory obligations and keep the team prepared for audits, inspections, and reporting requirements.
- Work with site leadership, operations, and cross-functional partners to reinforce a proactive safety culture.
- Evaluate EHS performance data, identify patterns, and drive corrective and preventive actions.
- Allocate work, balance team workload, and make sure important deliverables are completed on time.
- Support incident investigations through leadership, review, and escalation where needed.
- Promote continuous improvement efforts that lower risk and strengthen EHS outcomes.
- Communicate expectations clearly and ensure accountability for results.
- Act as a trusted EHS advisor to leadership on risk, compliance, and strategic matters.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of experience in EHS, with leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of relevant EHS laws, standards, and best practices.
- Ability to lead teams, influence others, and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and problem-solving abilities.
- Background in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, or a similar regulated industry.
- Experience handling audits, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action programs.
- Proven ability to build engagement and accountability within a team.
