Role overview

Ei Electronics is looking for a practical, hands-on IT and cyber security engineer to join its IT function in a large Irish multinational. This position places cyber security at the centre of the work, with responsibility for strengthening the organisation’s security maturity, maintaining accreditation readiness, and supporting day-to-day IT operations in a collaborative environment.

The role focuses on building and sustaining strong security controls, governance, and standards so the business remains protected and prepared for audits. It also requires awareness of the regulatory environment, including NIS2 and GDPR, and contributing across the wider IT team where needed.

Key responsibilities

• Take ownership of Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation and keep the organisation continuously prepared for reassessment.
• Improve the security posture in line with ISO 27001 and other recognised security frameworks.
• Apply best-practice controls across perimeter protection, server and endpoint hardening, cloud security, access control, privileged access, malware defence, and patch/vulnerability management.
• Build and maintain the evidence, records, and supporting documentation needed for audits and technical assurance reviews.
• Work with external assessors during audits, penetration tests, and related verification exercises.
• Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, and standards aligned to CE+, ISO 27001, CIS, NIST, and similar frameworks.
• Keep security operations aligned with regulatory duties, including incident response and breach notification requirements under NIS2 and GDPR.
• Administer and optimise security settings in Microsoft 365 and Azure, including conditional access, Entra ID, MFA, Intune compliance, Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Identity, and Sentinel.
• Spot security weaknesses and drive remediation through to completion.
• Coordinate cyber incident and breach handling from detection and investigation through containment, recovery, and lessons learned.
• Deliver awareness sessions and acceptable-use training to staff.
• Serve as a senior escalation contact for IT support matters.
• Support core platforms such as Microsoft 365, Azure, Active Directory, and VMware/vCentre.
• Promote secure-by-default configuration across systems and contribute to wider IT improvement work in a small, hands-on team.

Requirements

• A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field.
• Four to five years of practical IT experience, with cyber security as the main focus.
• Proven ability to implement and manage security controls using recognised standards or frameworks such as CE+, ISO 27001, CIS, or NIST.
• Hands-on knowledge of firewall and boundary protection, identity and access management, MFA, least privilege, patching, vulnerability remediation, and endpoint security.
• Strong working experience with Microsoft security tools, including Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Identity, Sentinel, Intune, and Entra ID.
• Solid experience supporting Microsoft 365, Azure, Active Directory, and VMware/vCentre.
• Understanding of NIS2, GDPR, and the regulatory responsibilities linked to security operations.
• Experience creating, maintaining, and improving security policies and procedures.
• Familiarity with audit processes, evidence collection, and technical testing expectations.
• Comfort working in a small generalist IT team and contributing beyond pure security tasks.
• Clear communication and teamwork skills, with a practical approach to delivery.
• Desirable: cyber security certifications such as CompTIA Security+, SSCP, or similar.
• Desirable: experience implementing ISO 27001 or building an ISMS.
• Desirable: experience tuning or operating SIEM platforms such as Microsoft Sentinel.
• Desirable: exposure to SOC operations or incident response work.
• Desirable: involvement in security certification or re-certification efforts.
