Position overview

The University of Alabama at Huntsville’s Facilities & Operations team is looking for a Custodian to support the upkeep of campus buildings. This role is focused on keeping university spaces clean, safe, and presentable, and the work is scheduled for the second shift from 2:00 PM to 10:45 PM.

This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position based in Alabama, United States. The role is categorized under Facilities and Environment.

Key duties

• Sanitize and clean restrooms, classrooms, offices, shared spaces, entrances, vestibules, elevators, stairwells, and other assigned locations.
• Review assigned areas and continue cleaning until the spaces meet the expected standards of cleanliness.
• Remove waste and recycling from all designated containers.
• Store equipment, tools, and supplies properly after use so they remain in good working condition and can be used efficiently.
• Keep custodial storage spaces orderly, clean, and safe at all times.
• Deliver courteous service to students, staff, faculty, and other university visitors by greeting them professionally, communicating closures clearly, and escalating concerns to management promptly.
• Adhere to current safety rules and industry best practices.
• Use personal protective equipment as instructed and operate all equipment according to proper procedures.

Minimum qualifications

A high school diploma or an equivalent credential is required. The candidate must also be physically capable of handling and operating all necessary equipment.

Preferred background

Previous experience in janitorial or custodial work is preferred.

Compensation

The published annual pay range for this role is $29,000 to $31,200.
