Role overview

The Subcontracts Specialist will support project execution by managing the subcontracting lifecycle from RFQ issuance through award and contract completion. This role also serves as a trusted advisor to project leadership on subcontract scope, obligations, and contract interpretation.

Key responsibilities

  • Run the subcontractor solicitation process, including RFQs, bid evaluation, bid comparison, contract discussions, interpretation, and final execution.
  • Handle subcontract change orders with accuracy and consistency.
  • Examine scopes of work and assemble bid packages.
  • Apply suitable subcontracting and pricing approaches such as lump sum, unit rate, target cost, cost reimbursement, or blended models.
  • Secure all required approvals as the process moves forward.
  • Work with legal and operations teams to review contract documents and confirm contractual duties.
  • Spot contract-related risks and help reduce exposure to the organization.
  • Assess subcontractor edits to standard terms and conditions and prepare written responses.
  • Verify that subcontracts comply with corporate standards and project contracting requirements.
  • Confirm that the subcontractor, agreement, and services align with project and client expectations.
  • Collaborate with project management, the commercial director, and legal teams to resolve difficult issues related to interpretation, compliance, and reporting.
  • Review scopes of work to ensure alignment with owner and project specifications.
  • Advise management and operations on subcontract requirements and contractual obligations.
  • Partner closely with operations and construction personnel.
  • Keep complete and well-organized records covering templates, approvals, executed agreements, and pending subcontracts.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering or a related field, or more than five years of relevant experience and/or training, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is CAD 80,000 to CAD 90,000 per year. Actual pay will depend on factors such as work location, education, experience, specialized skills, certifications, training, and the scope and complexity of the position.
