This opportunity is being shared on behalf of a partner organization that handles applications and the next stages of the process. The employer is seeking a Senior Director, Program Management located in the United States.

This is a senior leadership position focused on steering large, global drug development programs in rare disease from early planning through commercialization. You will act as the main coordination point across clinical, regulatory, commercial, manufacturing, access, and medical teams, helping ensure strategy, execution, governance, and decision-making stay aligned across the full portfolio. The role has meaningful influence over schedules, budgets, risk controls, and delivery approach for late-stage programs, while also supporting alliance and partnership coordination with external collaborators. It suits a highly structured leader who can bring order, pace, and clarity to complex matrixed programs.

Key responsibilities

Direct end-to-end planning and delivery across clinical, regulatory, commercial, access, manufacturing, medical, and nonclinical workstreams throughout the product lifecycle.
Run program strategy and governance sessions, including agenda development, decision preparation, documentation, and follow-up on actions.
Create, maintain, and improve integrated program plans covering timelines, budgets, critical paths, cross-functional dependencies, and risk responses.
Strengthen governance by identifying the right decision forums and making sure leaders receive the information they need to decide effectively.
Work with Program Leadership and Alliance Management to keep external partners aligned, including international collaborators.
Own program risk oversight by spotting issues early and putting mitigation plans in place to protect milestones and timelines.
Partner with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, resource planning, and support for executive approval processes.
Build cross-functional clarity, accountability, and transparency to support delivery of development and commercialization goals.
Contribute to process improvements and enhancements to the program management operating model.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or a related discipline is required; a Master’s degree is preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
At least 12 years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotech development, with substantial exposure to late-stage or global programs.
Minimum 5 years leading complex, cross-functional program or project management in a matrixed setting.
Strong grasp of drug development processes, including NDA/MAA regulatory pathways and submission support.
Demonstrated experience managing integrated development plans, timelines, budgets, and critical path analysis for complex initiatives.
Background in alliance or partnership-driven environments, ideally with collaboration involving Asia-based partners.
Strong ability to lead and influence diverse global stakeholders and align them around shared goals.
Excellent communication, facilitation, and decision-management skills in cross-functional settings.
Highly organized and analytical, with the ability to juggle competing priorities in a fast-moving environment.
Comfort using project management tools and common productivity software such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Smartsheet.
Ability to work flexibly, adapt quickly, and maintain a strong execution focus in complex organizational structures.
