Material Handling Operator - SMP

Role overview

This position supports the smooth flow of materials for steel plant operations in Abu Dhabi. The role covers storage yards, raw materials, refractories, scrap, waste, and by-products, with a strong focus on safe handling, correct documentation, and compliance with plant procedures and environmental standards.

The operator works with material handling contractors and subcontractors to keep production supplied without interruption. The job also involves following work instructions, observing plant safety rules, and ensuring materials are received, checked, moved, stacked, and delivered correctly.

Key responsibilities

• Check incoming materials against shipping and packing documents and confirm they match.
• Inspect materials visually, take required samples, and forward them to the lab according to procedure.
• Escalate any mismatch, damage, or unusual condition in materials to the supervisor immediately.
• Monitor SMP silo levels through visual checks and/or control room coordination.
• Move materials from open storage areas to closed storage areas based on instruction and operational need.
• Perform regular checks on material handling equipment and facilities, and report findings without delay.
• Sort and receive different scrap categories in line with the yard layout and plan.
• Support the preparation of scrap billets and skulls.
• Identify the scrap grade required and estimate the quantity needed for charging.
• Manage the safe collection, movement, segregation, and stacking of waste and by-products to avoid production delays.
• Support the efficient loading and disposal of non-hazardous waste.
• Handle, store, and deliver raw materials needed for steelmaking operations in line with the QS Program, applicable standards, ASME Code, and customer requirements.
• Coordinate with material handling contractors and subcontractor manpower as required.
• Follow all plant safety rules, procedures, work instructions, and environmental requirements.

Experience and education

Applicants should have 3 to 7 years of relevant experience and hold a Diploma.

This is a full-time, on-site role in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The role requires active coordination in yard operations, waste handling, scrap segregation, and raw material movement to support continuous production.
