Role overview
This position is for an IT Network Engineer based in Doha, Qatar, supporting the organization’s network environment across local and wide area networks, internet connectivity, and related infrastructure. The role focuses on keeping connectivity reliable, secure, documented, and aligned with business operations.
Key responsibilities
- Build, obtain approval for, and put into operation systems and procedures that keep LAN and WAN connectivity effective for the company’s locations.
- Oversee the day-to-day running and support of network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, network operating systems, internet services, MPLS, and related components.
- Develop and deploy internet connectivity arrangements that protect internal systems from unauthorized access.
- Evaluate, plan, and specify requirements for new network deployments and upgrades, including hardware, network operating systems, and software.
- Create, maintain, and enforce network administration policies, procedures, and standards to protect systems, services, and equipment.
- Keep network documentation complete, current, and reflective of every change or enhancement.
- Check vendor documentation to confirm it is complete and accurate.
- Review system logs to detect possible issues in computer systems.
- Configure access and operating procedures for existing domains, while planning and monitoring administrator activity.
- Track network performance regularly and identify improvement opportunities that maximize the organization’s current network capability.
- Monitor hardware modules to maintain peak performance and resolve technical issues when they arise.
- Stay updated on technology developments and best practices to determine what can be adopted to strengthen the company’s technical advantage.
- Provide troubleshooting and support for network-related IT issues.
- Ensure operational decisions, contacts, and agreements are handled in line with company policies and procedures.
- Work with the IT Operation Manager, IT Project Manager, and IT Director on a comprehensive controls compliance program.
Qualifications and technical background
- A degree in Computer Engineering or an equivalent qualification is required.
- Professional network training or certifications in technologies such as Cisco, HP, or Juniper are expected.
- Hands-on Microsoft server administration experience is needed, including Windows Server 2008/2012, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, DFS, and PowerShell scripting.
- Required certifications include Microsoft MCITP, MCSE, Cisco, or VMware.
- Strong English writing and speaking skills are necessary.
- Good analytical ability and solid computer proficiency are essential.
- The role requires the ability to manage contract resources, external service providers, process owners, and user relationships effectively.
- The candidate should work well under time pressure.
- Familiarity with the ITIL framework is preferred.
- Experience with risk assessment and mitigation methods is required.
- At least 7 years of experience in networks, email, infrastructure, and related environments is expected, preferably with Microsoft, Cisco, or HP servers and storage area network equipment.
- Knowledge of network management tools and utilities is preferred, along with certifications such as Cisco CCNA, CCNP, MCSE, MCSA Messaging, or an equivalent.
- Practical experience with Microsoft BackOffice server products, including Windows Server 2003/2008, Exchange 2007/2010, Active Directory, DNS, ISA, IIS, and DHCP, is needed.
- Knowledge of hardware servers and storage area networks, preferably HP or similar systems, is required.
- Understanding of standard industry commercial and charter scenarios, as well as controls concepts and principles, is expected.
- The person must be a strong team player.
