Role overview
An energy-sector client is seeking an HSE Engineer for a forthcoming project in Sila, UAE. This is a site-based direct-hire position tied to the project duration, with the employment term subject to renewal depending on the actual length of the assignment.
Employment terms
- Type of hire: direct hire
- Contract length: linked to the project/assignment and may be renewed if the project continues

- Work pattern: 6 days per week
Key responsibilities
- Take ownership of site safety, health, and environmental performance, ensuring the worksite remains safe, environmentally responsible, and free from man-hour losses.
- Oversee construction activities against the HSE plan and confirm that EPC contract requirements are fully met, while tracking contractor compliance with approved quality, health, safety, and environmental documentation.
- Champion the company’s 10 life-saving rules, as well as a culture of vigilance and openness, and set the standard through personal example.
- Carry out safety inspections and investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses.
- Support delivery of HSE performance targets and KPIs, including monitoring EPC and subcontractor KPI performance.
- Manage follow-up actions arising from site observations, incident reviews, and management decisions, while keeping accurate records of non-conformities, corrective actions, follow-up logs, near-miss reports, lessons learned, and interface issues.
- Identify potential site risks early, propose practical solutions with project management, the client, and EPC teams, and help implement corrective measures to prevent repeat events.
- Contribute to HSE training delivery and, where needed, help develop training content while maintaining competency and completion records.
- Ensure facilities, tools, equipment, and assets under your responsibility are kept in safe condition and used appropriately.
- Review contractor daily reports and HSE reports for QHSE-related matters.
- Oversee inspection, testing, and commissioning activities to ensure QHSE compliance.
- Conduct site QHSE meetings and attend monthly meetings when required by project management, representing the employer with professionalism and strong ethical conduct.
- Coordinate with the HSE team at the Abu Dhabi head office and other site HSE engineers to exchange lessons learned and support implementation of HSE actions.
Experience and qualifications
- You should be a safety engineer with at least 10 years of experience in 400 kV overhead line or substation turnkey installations for projects of similar scale and complexity.
- Prior involvement in comparable projects is required across both design and construction stages.
- A strong field-safety mindset and solid knowledge of HSE management systems and HSE standards are essential.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills are needed, along with the ability to motivate diverse teams.
- The working language is English, both spoken and written.
- Arabic language skills are an advantage, though not mandatory.
- A valid KSA driving licence is mandatory.
